More about The
California Consumer Protection Foundation and the San Luis Obispo County
Community Foundation Demonstration Center and Loan Library at CCATC.
The Central Coast
Assistive Technology Center received funding to implement the Sensory Assistive
Technology Demonstration Center and Loan Library that will allow San Luis Obispo
County and Northern Santa Barbara County residents regardless of ethnicity,
financial status, age or diagnosis to experience, learn and use life-changing
assistive technology solutions. The Sensory Assistive Technology Demonstration
Center and Loan Library is based in San Luis Obispo where individuals with
visual and hearing impairments can visit, by appointment, to learn and use
assistive technology intended to improve their daily function. By providing
these services, the CCATC expects to identify key elements that will allow this
type of program to be reproduced in similar underserved geographical areas that
also have a high level of residents with sensory deficits. This center will
empower individuals to live more independently, help prevent institutional
living, teach self-care techniques and encourage ongoing contributions to our
society. The CCATC has an extensive library of evaluation and loaner devices.
The CCATC will focus on reaching underserved individuals in our county that have
visual and hearing impairments. The CCATC is part of San Luis Obispo United
Cerebral Palsy. This new partnership will dramatically expand the organizational
capacity of the CCATC through increased exposure and capability.
